WIMS User Guide

The WIMS user guide has been designed with the user uppermost in mind. It contains the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Nuclear Data
  • Module Description
  • Interface
  • Controller Description
  • Input Description
  • Output Description
  • Examples and User Advice

The input description is a major part of the manual and we have included a description below.

Input Description

The input for WIMS consists of a series of self-contained modules dealing with a particular function of the code. There are the following types of modules:

  • Starting Modules
  • Service Modules
  • Collision Probability Modules
  • Diffusion Theory Modules
  • Differential Transport Theory Modules
  • Edit Modules
  • Burnup Modules
  • Subgroup Modules
  • Monte Carlo Modules

The controller controls the modules used in a calculation and the order in which they are used. A calculation can cycle through a number of modules to carry out a series of depletion steps or vary a set of parameters.

For each module the user guide gives a summary of what the module does, when it is needed and, a brief statement of what the code will do with the supplied data.

The input requirements for the module are then presented on pairs of pages: a flow chart on one page and expanatory notes facing.
