Advanced Alternatives to MCNP

Educational Support Programme

At Serco Assurance, we specialise in the development of the Monte Carlo methods for reactor physics, shielding and criticality applications, and in satisfying the detailed requirements of our customers.

Although packed with capability, our MONK and MCBEND packages are easy to use and require only a short learning curve before the user can produce productive work. The software is ideal for short research projects where reference quality solutions or a range of assessments are required.

Why limit students to approximate analysis when they can be using the tools of tomorrow today?

Serco Assurance is offering MONK and MCBEND for educational uses at heavily discounted prices.

Please contact us for details - you won't regret it.

MCBEND

A Monte Carlo package for radiation transport problems in shield design, dosimetry and industrial applications.

Major productivity benefits to users arise from:

  • The efficiency of MCBEND's automatic acceleration techniques - just tell it where and what you wish to tally and it produces an optimal 3D importance map in space, energy and time.
  • The ease of model specification - as the importance grid is separate from the geometry model you don't have to complicate your geometry by splitting material regions into cells for acceleration purposes.
  • And we've made it even easier to assemble your models from self contained component parts - just as you would do in real life.

If you are daunted by having to create and maintain a large global model then take a look at MCBEND's Fractal Geometry.

MCBEND is developed in collaboration with BNFL.

MONK

A powerful Monte Carlo tool for nuclear criticality safety analysis.

MONK's advanced geometry modelling capability and detailed continuous energy collision modelling treatments provide realistic 3D models for an accurate simulation of neutronic behaviour.

The results provide the best estimate of neutron multiplication factor, k-effective.

The MONK user can benefit from:

  • reduced start-up costs (as the package is easy to use)
  • increased productivity (as complex models can be simply set up and verified)
  • increased confidence (as MONK has demonstrable accuracy over a wide range of applications)

That's why companies and regulators outside the United Kingdom use MONK to provide an assessment capability which is totally independent from their indigenous methods.

MONK is developed in collaboration with BNFL.
