NAMMU 7.1 was released in May 2001. Compared with earlier versions of NAMMU, it offers increased functionality and improved performance and usability. It is the first release fo NAMMU to be available for the Linux operating system.

NAMMU 7.1 provides new facilities to generate the physical properties of the model from data supplied by the user. These facilities include the ability to generate stochastic realisations of the permeability field and to take into account discrete linear features such as faults and fracture zones without having to distort the finite-element mesh around the features.

NAMMU 7.1 allows the user access to 50 variables (compared with 8 variables in earlier releases). This and the new option to model tracer transport taking into account the effects of solubility limitation greatly increase the range of transport calulations that can be carried out using the program.

Other new features include the addition of several new boundary conditions, enhancements to the modelling of unsaturated groundwater flow, new options for specifying timestep sizes, the addition of a second iterative solver and a major reduction in the size of the temporary files generated by the program.
