Simulation
of naturally fractured reservoirs is a technically complex problem, both in
terms of the characterisation and modelling of flow. This is due to the presence
of irregular and highly heterogeneous flowing features on a range of scales.
Successful
exploitation of these reservoirs benefits from assessing the impact of such
heterogeneities on recovery processes. The main challenges for the reservoir
engineer are in interpreting data, predicting near-well flow behaviour and parameterising
regional-scale continuum models. Serco Assurance has developed systematic techniques
for addressing each of these issues based around the NAPSAC software.
