Many large engineering and construction projects may involve disturbance of the water table. Examples include tunnels, mines, underground storage facilities, and deep shafts. Groundwater modelling prior to excavation can be used to estimate inflow rates during construction, the effect on local wells or water supplies, and operational pumping requirements.
NAMMU and NAPSAC have the capability to efficiently generate three dimensional finite-element grids incorporating engineered structures. In addition, the grid refinement and wide range of interpolation schemes can be closely controlled and tailored to the requirements of specific problems.
