Feature Colour

Description

The feature colour panel is part of the feature properties dialog box. It is used to set the colour related properties of features.
The panel is divided into several sub-panels, each of which controls part of the colouring properties.

Colour by

Fixed colour

Each feature is given a fixed colour. The colour is chosen by clicking the adjacent coloured box and selecting the colour from the colour browser.

Attribute

Colours the features according to the attribute values defined for them. The attribute to colour by is selected from the drop-down list of available attributes.
The units to use for the attribute are selected from the list of available units for that attribute.
The list of attributes available is the combined list of all selected features. If the selected attribute is not available for any feature then it will be assigned the Undefined value colour in the Attribute colouring sub-panel.

Attribute colouring

No. colours

Specifies how many colours to use for representing the attribute value range.
Changing this value causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.

Min. value

Specifies the minimum value to use for the attribute value range in the current units.
Changing this value causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.

Max. value

Specifies the maximum value to use for the attribute value range in the current units.
Changing this value causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.

Recalculate range

Clicking this button resets the minimum and maximum attribute values to the minimum and maximum values of the current attribute data of the selected features.
Clicking this button also causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.

Log scale

Ticking this check box indicates that the attribute values vary on a logarithmic scale.
Changing this check box causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.

Min. abs. value for log

This value is the minimum absolute value to use for logarithmic values in the current units that are close to zero. Attribute values whose absolute value is less than this minimum will be set to this value before the log value is calculated.
Changing this value causes the values in the attribute colour table to be automatically recalculated.
This text box is only enabled when using a logarithmic scale.

Attribute colour table

This table is used to specify the colours to use for each part of the attribute value range.
The number next to each colour indicates the minimum attribute value in the current units for which that colour applies. Therefore, a given colour is used for any attribute value from the given value up to the value for the next colour. The first colour is also used for any attribute values below the first value. The last colour is also used for any attribute values above the last value. Note that the last value in the table corresponds to the value one step before the specified Max. value.
To change a colour, double-click on it and select the new colour from the colour browser.
To change a value, click on it and edit the value.
Note that changing the number of colours, or the minimum or maximum range values, or the type of scale causes these values to be automatically re-calculated.

Undefined value colour

This is the colour used for features or parts of features that do not have a value defined for the current attribute. The colour is chosen by clicking the adjacent coloured box and selecting the colour from the colour browser.

Auto colour

Clicking this button assigns an automatic range of colours to one or more colours in the attribute colour table.
If no colours are currently selected then a colour range from the first colour to the last colour in the table is assigned.
If one colour is currently selected then a colour range from this colour to the last colour in the table is assigned.
If two or more colours are selected then a colour range from the first selected colour to the last selected colour is assigned.
Use shift or ctrl clicking to select more than one colour.

Reverse colours

Clicking this button reverses the order of the colours in the attribute colour table.

Attribute settings

Solve

If more than one solve data file has been loaded (only possible when opening a NAPSAC or CONNECTFLOW project) then the current solve to use can be selected from this list. There will be a delay while the new solve data is loaded.
Changing the solve will also reset the attribute ranges in the Attribute colouring sub-panel.
The list is disabled if there is only one solve available.

Time step

If the current solve has more than one time step, i.e. it is a transient solve, then the current time step can be selected from this list. There will be a delay while the new solve data for the selected time step is loaded.
Changing the timestep will also reset the attribute ranges in the Attribute colouring sub-panel.
The list is disabled if there is only one time step available.

Show isosurfaces

If this check box is ticked then attribute values of the features will be represented by a number of discrete isosurfaces (surfaces of constant attribute value). The colour and value of each isosurface is defined by the colours and values in the Attribute colour table of the Attribute colouring sub-panel.

Legend settings

The Legend settings sub-panel defines if and how a legend is displayed when colouring by attribute. It is disabled if colouring by a fixed colour.
The legend represents the colours and values specified in the Attribute colour table of the Attribute colouring sub-panel. The legend range starts at the first colour and value in the table and extends to the last colour in the table. The maximum value in the legend is set to the value specified in the Max. value text box. The legend range is then equally sub-divided (using a log scale if specified) and coloured accordingly.
The legend can be moved by dragging it.
The legend can be resized by dragging one of its corners.

Show legend

If this checkbox is ticked, a legend is displayed in the render panel.

Legend title

Specifies the title displayed with the legend.

Transparency

The Transparency sub-panel defines the amount of transparency to apply to features.
The transparency can be set on a scale from 0% to 100% by using the slider or by entering the value directly into the text box. A value of 0% indicates a completely opaque feature and 100% indicates a completely transparent (invisible) feature.

Style

Point size

Defines the size of points in pixels.

Line width

Defines the thickness of lines in pixels.
